CHANDIGARH: I have no trust in police inquiry and so the matter relating to violence in gurdwara and terror links should be probed either by a magistrate or by some independent agency. Sector 38-based Gurdwara Santsar chairman Swaroop Singh stated this to TOI, breaking his month-long silence over the issue.
The controversial godman was booked for abetting violence during the anti-encroachment drive, led by ADC Sandhu, which left Sandhu and several UT cops injured.
Now, in another fresh case, he has been booked for masterminding a conspiracy to forge documents and conceal facts to obtain passport for Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) activist Gurbhej Singh. Swaroop said he was evading arrest and that he might file for anticipatory bail in the court next week. My followers are buying time to meet the top-shots of Punjab politics and SGPC, he informed.
However, he did not reveal much alleging, Though I have sent several feelers to police, we are getting neither relief nor any person to listen to us, asking, When in peak days of terrorism, I had not joined hands with these outfits, why should I do it now.
Swaroop further revealed that he came to know about the passport scam only after the case was registered. I took note of this and immediately dismissed head priest Deep Singh, he said, adding that he was introduced to Gurbhej by Deep who stated that he was deported from Germany and wanted to work for the gurdwara. When asked about investigating officials allegations that he met Gurbhej at a gurdwara in Hamburg (Germany), he said, Most of the time I was on move to deliver lectures and Deep used to take charge. If he has introduced him (Gurbhej) as his nephew and forged documents, I have no knowledge of the same.
Meanwhile, clearing his stand over the charges at the eviction drive, he alleged that he was forcefully sent inside the house when his followers feared the situation becoming volatile. They pelted stones only in self defense after they feared police firing. I was trying to stop the violence.
